Food
All VIA trains serve food during the trip. If you are on a short trip, you generally will have access to a fast food counter or in seat service. If you are on a longer trip, there is a luxury dining car on the train. If you opt for the Business class or the Sleeper Touring class, meals are included.
Wireless Internet
Wireless Internet service is provided on all VIA Rail trains. Wireless service is provided by Nomad Digital, in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor. Wi-Fi is also offered in all Panorama lounges at major stations.
The VIA Environment
Via has put together a set of guidelines so that the ride may be enjoyable for all.
Repectful and Safe Environment:
- Endangering the safety of others or the safe operation of the train
- Verbal or physical abuse
- Threat, harassment, or intimidating behaviour
- Intoxication and/or disorderly conduct
- Consumption or distribution of personal alcoholic beverages or illegal substances
- Disregard of smoking regulations
- Carrying a weapon or false declaration that you or any other person is carrying a weapon
Smoking:
VIA offers a smoke-free environment on all trains. Smoking is allowed under certain regulations on certain routes:
Quebec City-Windsor corridor:
No smoking is allowed during station stops
Montreal-Halifax and Montreal-Gaspe
You will be able to smoke when the train stops in Charny, New Carlisle, Campbellton, and Moncton
Toronto-Vancouver
You may get off to smoke at Capreyol, Hornpayne, Sioux Lookout, Winnepeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Kamloops.
Winnipeg-Churchill
You may smoke at regular station stops at The Pas, Thompson and Gillam
Alcohol:
Consumption of alcohol is governed by the laws of the province that the train is passing through. Alcohol is sold on most trains. Personal alcoholic beverages may not be brought on and consumed on the train.
Noise Level:
VIA asks that you make as little noise as possible when operating cellular devices and radio devices, as most people require low noise levels to enjoy their journey.
Childrens Activities
Childrens activities are offered on most VIA trains. Activity books for kids are offered on most major routes that include cut and paste and colouring activities. Exclusive to the Sleeper Touring class on the Toronto-Vancouver train, games, activities and video showings are offered for children from 7:30-10:00 am. On the Montreal-Halifax train, videos for children are shown in the morning and evening.
